Ushering in Detroit's
Next Chapter
The public investiture, celebrating a historic new chapter for the City of Detroit, will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the Detroit Opera House, marking the swearing-in of Detroit’s first woman mayor, Mary Sheffield. The investiture is free and open to the public and will also include the swearing-in of Detroit City Council Members, Detroit Police Commissioners, and City Clerk Janice M. Winfrey.
Hosting the public event at the Detroit Opera House allows Detroiters to meaningfully participate in the historic occasion and reflects the Mayor-elect’s commitment to inclusive leadership and collaboration with her colleagues and the community. The investiture will feature performances from Detroit’s poet laureate Jessica Care Moore, the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences, Gospel star Kierra Sheard, and Detroit Opera House soloist Brianna J. Robinson, celebrating Detroit’s rich culture and community spirit. It will also be livestreamed on the City of Detroit’s cable channel and social media channels to ensure citywide access.
More information about the investiture, including how the public can obtain free tickets, is available through the Detroit Opera website HERE. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
